Anti-Aging Tip #8 – The Sugar Factor

One thing you know for sure is that you can’t get away with eating sugary sweets and foods.  Not long after eating these, even in secret, they will show up for all to see, on your hips, waist, and elsewhere on the body.  While we know that too much sugar can lead to weight gain, you might not realize the effects it has on your health, heart and aging process.

Research done on diabetes has led to information about the effects of too much sugar on cells in the body that form glycation end products or (AGE’s).  This process causes protein fibers to become stiff and malformed.  Several ill effects are the results including  connective-tissue damage and chronic inflammation resulting from diabetics’ sustained high blood sugar can lead to debilitating conditions, such as cataracts, Alzheimer’s, vascular tightening, and diseases of the pancreas and liver

As for aging, the sugar and protein combination results in skin that becomes discolored, weak, and less supple.  The results – wrinkles, sagginess, and a loss of radiance. Truth is, it is difficult to cut back on all sugar if you eat out at restaurants, eat fast foods or consume anything that comes processes or packages. Even pre-seasoned meats might have sugar added.  It’s important to always read food labels to know what you’re eating.

To help cut back on your sugar consumption, eat more fruits and sweet vegetables to tame the sweet cravings. Read labels to minimize your intake of added sugars
